Collars
Collars are used throughout aircraft assembly and maintenance, including wing skins, fuselage frames, engine nacelles, control surfaces, landing gear, and interior structural modules. Swage and Hi-Lok collars in wing-to-spar connections can improve fatigue life and reduce rework, while Hi-Lok fasteners and the Hi-Lite fastener line deliver reliable, lightweight performance.
AIAP provides certified aerospace collars, technical guidance, and responsive supply programs to enhance safety, accelerate turnaround, and maintain compliance—positioning us as a trusted leader for Hi-Lok, Hi-Lite, and Hi-Tigue collars, along with OEM specifications such as BACC, ABS, and more.
Types of Aerospace Collars
- Frangible collars – Designed to break off at a specific torque, ensuring consistent clamp load and a seamless finish. They provide reliability in installation but are single-use and demand precise torque control.
- Swage collars (lockbolt systems) – These collars plastically deform onto grooved pins to create high-strength, vibration-resistant joints. Known for their excellent fatigue resistance and quick installation, they require specialized tools.
- Hi-Lok, Hi-Lite, and Hi-Tigue collars – These collars offer controlled torque, lightweight design, and simplified installation. The Hi-Lok system and the Hi-Lite fastener option are prevalent in airframes focused on repeatability and weight reduction, with Hi-Tigue providing enhanced fatigue life.
- Pin-rivet collars – Utilized with structural rivets and clevis pins, these collars ensure robust shear and bearing performance in thin-gauge assemblies.
